The Best Visa-Free Countries Malaysians Must Visit in 2026

We’ve all been there: You’ve picked out your next dream destination based on what you saw on a variety of social platforms and planned for the best holiday ever, only for the trip to be disrupted by cumbersome visa applications. But wait, wasn’t that country meant to be visa-free for Malaysians to visit?

As frequent travellers ourselves, we know that disappointing feeling when your dream trip doesn’t go as planned. With border rules changing now and again across multiple countries, it can be hard to keep up with the destinations that really offer visa-free access to Malaysian passport holders.

Well, fret not because we’re about to share an updated list of the best places we as Malaysians can enter visa-free. After all, our passport is officially ranked the third most powerful in the world, according to the 2025 Passport Index. Forget the hassle of paperwork or halted plans because these dream destinations are waiting for you in 2026!

But wait! What does a visa-free holiday actually mean?

So, before we dive into the exciting parts of your holiday planning, let’s talk about the important things, like what visa-free actually means. Not to be confused with a visa on arrival, where you may have to fill out a bunch of forms and pay a fee at the border upon landing at your destination, having a visa-free status literally means there are no prior paperwork applications needed to enter the country you’re visiting.

For spontaneous travellers, being able to enter a country that offers visa-free travel is always the better choice, as you don’t have to spend extra time waiting for approvals from embassies or other relevant authorities.

However, it’s important to note that a valid passport is still required as always. Many countries and airlines also stress the importance of the date of validity on your passport, so you’ll want to be sure that you have at least 6 months left on your document before travelling. This applies to the date of your exit from Malaysia and back, and the last thing you’ll want is to miss out on a vacation of a lifetime because of an expired passport.

China

From modern cityscapes like Beijing to traditional architectural marvels like the Great Wall of China, there are almost no words to describe how beautiful China can be. And while travel visas were previously required for Malaysians to enter the country, the mutual agreement between the Malaysian government and the Government of the People’s Republic of China meant eager holidaymakers no longer had to go through the hurdles of endless paperwork for short visits, including tourism.

The agreement had only come into effect in the second half of 2025 and is expected to stretch into 2026, with possible extensions following more discussions. With so much left to be explored in China, this visa-free status is a welcome move to many adventurous travellers.

For instance, historical buffs will truly enjoy a trip to Xi’an, where the iconic Terracotta Warriors stand. Discovered in 1974 by local farmers in the Lintong County of Xi’an, this collection of terracotta sculptures is said to date back to the late 200s BCE and was a form of funerary art buried with the late emperor Qin Shi Huang. Beyond this must-visit museum, this capital city of the Shaanxi province is also the hotspot for the best roujiamo – a snack featuring a crispy baked bun that’s stuffed with juicy braised meats – you can find.

Also rising in popularity is Chongqing, an urban municipality set in Southwestern China. Best known for its modern architecture amid a natural backdrop, many holidaymakers see Chongqing as their dream destination since the day they discovered that visiting China is now visa-free. The 11-storey stilt building known as Hongyadong is probably one of the biggest draws to Chongqing, with tourists flocking to the area to capture the unofficial lighting ceremony that happens at sunset daily.

Japan

If you’ve ever planned a vacation with friends or loved ones, chances are that Japan would have come up in the conversation at least once. This comes as no surprise, as Japan is known to be a favourite destination for many holidaymakers. To make trips to this wonderful country even easier, Japan is also a visa-free country for Malaysian passport holders.

With multiple flights taking you directly into hotspots such as Tokyo or Osaka daily, visiting Japan has never been easier for anyone looking for a visa-free vacation. Want to avoid the crowds in big cities? Thankfully, Japan has plenty more to offer if you simply know where to go. Whether it’s sunny Okinawa or mysterious Kanazawa, these less-travelled paths are the perfect spot to visit if you’re on the lookout for a Japanese holiday that’s a little different.

Visitors looking to travel to Japan in early February should also consider dropping by Sapporo, where the annual Sapporo Snow Festival is hosted. Recognised as one of the most popular events among locals and tourists alike, the festival features three main sites where you can admire intricate snow sculptures or participate in snow-related games and activities all day long. And the best part? Entrance to the Sapporo Snow Festival is free for all visitors, but small fees may be collected if you want to partake in their activities.

Czech Republic

Fondly known as the “Heart of Europe” due to its geographical location, the Czech Republic is a gorgeous destination that’s sure to steal your heart from the moment you arrive. The country itself is popular for its fairytale-like views, no matter where you choose to visit, making it especially popular among fans of medieval sights and architecture.

The capital city, Prague, is one of the country’s most visited places, and you’ll always find it buzzing no matter the time of day. It’s especially recommended for those who are in the Czech Republic for the first time, with its cobblestone streets and historic buildings seemingly transporting you to a holiday experience of the ancient past.

Many tourists often start by walking through the Old Town area, stopping to admire the historical Astronomical Clock that’s said to date back to 1410. They would then make their way across the iconic Charles Bridge, where 30 baroque-style statues and gargoyles sit, some of which are even said to grant you good luck if you rub their accompanying bronze plaques. In fact, it’s easy to spot this lucky spot as the plaque is extraordinarily shiny – possibly from the many hands that have touched it with grand wishes.

Thanks to its setting, the Czech Republic is often a middle ground for holidaymakers hoping to capture as much of Europe as possible. This is why the train stations around the country are exceptionally busy, as you can often hop on a train and quickly arrive in other destinations such as Hungary, Austria, and Slovakia, which are the closest. Thankfully, all of these countries are also visa-free to visit for Malaysians, and combining them into a single holiday is often a smart choice.

Switzerland

Imagine a country where picturesque lakes meet jaw-dropping mountain peaks everywhere you turn, and the first place that would come to mind is Switzerland. Though relatively small, Switzerland is a breathtaking destination that we recommend visiting at least once in your life, and it is surprisingly visa-free to enter. Surrounded by charming mountain towns and vibrant cities, it’s easy to see why Switzerland is the ultimate bucket list spot for many travellers.

Tucked away in central Switzerland is where you’ll find Lucerne, a picturesque city that’s famed for its medieval architecture preserved in time. The Chapel Bridge that is built over the River Reuss is arguably the most iconic wooden footbridge in Switzerland and connects the Lucerne Tower on the south bank with St. Peter’s Chapel on Rathausquai. Built in the 14th century, this bridge is also said to be the oldest across Europe, and makes for a beautiful photo spot, especially at sunset.

Of course, you can’t say you’ve been in Switzerland without stopping by any of the mountain viewpoints. And perhaps one of the most popular mountains in the world is none other than the Matterhorn. Tucked away in the town of Zermatt, the Matterhorn is said to be the most photographed mountain worldwide and stands at 4,478 metres tall. Boasting a majestic outlook no matter the angle you look, its near-perfect silhouette is best admired during sunrise or sunset. And while the Matterhorn itself isn’t a summit that you can hike, the surrounding hiking trails are a favourite among adrenaline seekers, as they offer unbeatable views of this distinguished mountain.

For holidaymakers who prefer a more laid-back experience to see the Matterhorn, the Riffelsee Lake that’s set close to the Rotenboden station offers a mirror-like reflection of the mountain. Accessible via the Gorgergrat railway, the area is also where you’ll find plenty of restaurants and cafes ready to welcome you. After all, what could be more relaxing than to look up to the majestic Matterhorn while sampling some Swiss delicacies and sipping on a warm cup of coffee?

United Arab Emirates

To our Muslim friends who are hungry to travel visa-free, we’ve got you. With halal tourism picking up year after year, we understand how important it is to plan a holiday where you can explore without worries. This is why the United Arab Emirates continues to become a favourite among Muslim travellers, with exceptional offerings such as soaring skyscrapers and charismatic cultures taking the wheel wherever you start your journey.

Its capital city, Abu Dhabi, is one such destination where you can find plenty to do, including visiting the Ferrari World themed complex on Yas Island – perfect for racing enthusiasts – or seeing the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Offering a blend of authentic Islamic traditions with a wide variety of modern marvels, Abu Dhabi is where travellers can expect a seamless spiritual experience, whether they’re travelling solo or with family and friends.

The ever-stunning Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is another must-see when you’re here, as it’s recognised as one of the largest worldwide. And while the exterior stuns with no less than 82 white domes topping the architecture, it’s the mosque’s interior with intricate hand-crafted mosaic and stunning chandeliers that will make this visit an unforgettable one. For a more unique experience, we recommend visiting closer to sundown to see the mosque’s lunar illumination that was designed to reflect the lunar cycle.

Kenya

While there are plenty of visa-free countries to choose from when planning a holiday, many travellers often opt for the big cities where familiar adventures await. Unfortunately, this leads to missed opportunities to explore the great outdoors, and Kenya comes to mind immediately. In fact, did you know that many Malaysians are unaware that visiting East Africa can be done visa-free?

Best known for its wildlife preserves, stunning landscapes, and safari excursions, Kenya is a unique destination that will truly appeal to animal lovers. If you’re lucky, you may even encounter the iconic Big 5 of East Africa, namely the lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and the African Buffalo. But that’s not all, because Kenya is also home to over 50 national parks and reserves, with 8% of the country’s land being protected for wildlife and environmental conservation.

Another appealing factor to exploring Kenya is its comfortable climate year-round. This makes packing for this visa-free trip a breeze, as you can easily go by with a light jacket for the day and a thin fleece in preparation for the cooler evenings. The one thing you shouldn’t skimp on, however, is a pair of good shoes that will protect you from the safari’s uneven terrain and stray elements such as thorns and insects. Having a good itinerary can also be important to prepare yourself for the trip, as the country can feel overwhelming to navigate if it’s your first time in Kenya.

Want to explore the untamed wilderness without the hassle of planning? Holiday Tours offers a 10-day, 9-night Sky Safari excursion with accommodations both in hotels and camps where you can look out at the starry skies, convenient airport transfers, and other activities all lined up for your convenience. From exploring the Amboseli National Park to visiting the world-famous Masai Mara, this Sky Safari experience is the perfect holiday for travellers who want to leave behind the daily stresses of city life and be closer to nature.
